Toyota and Suzuki team up for development of self-driving car technology

Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda, and Suzuki Motor Corp. Chairman Osamu Suzuki had a joint news conference in Tokyo on Oct. 12, 2016. The two automakers announced on  28 August, 2019, that they will be partnering to develop self-driving cars. 

In February, BMW and Daimler stated they would be working together on self-driving cars.

Under their earlier agreement signed in 2017, Toyota and Suzuki  also cooperate in the Indian market, where Suzuki remains a strong player. They have already said they will continue to expand their collaboration.

“The automobile sector is currently experiencing a turning point unprecedented in both scope and scale,” Toyota and Suzuki said in a statement, referring to stronger environmental regulations as well as newcomers in the mobility business.

The companies stated that deepening their relationship will help both companies to grow and meet growing challenges in the market.
